37.3% of mums still undecided in election 2010: Kidspot.com.au poll
Australian mothers are remarkably undecided about their vote in the upcoming election with 37.3% still not knowing who they will vote for and a further 68.9% saying they will change their vote for a party that makes child care more affordable, according to a fresh poll from Australia’s number one parenting website Kidspot.com.au.
Kidspot has taken the electoral pulse of Australian mums in a survey which has run during the last two days on its market-leading parenting website, which attracts one million mums and more than 4 million page impressions each month.
“This survey clearly shows politicians are not engaging with mothers in a meaningful or vote-changing way,” says Kidspot’s executive editor Alex Brooks.
“Both major parties seem to think they have ticked the box by introducing paid parental leave, yet 75% of mothers say this issue has no relevance for them at all.”
In contrast, the survey indicates some of the biggest vote-catching topics include:
-
Health care system 84.4%
-
Equal employment opportunities for mothers and pregnant women 60.2%
-
Child care affordability 68.9%
n=244
“Child care is a really interesting issue, with more than 25% of mothers in our survey making the ‘forced’ choice to stay home with their children to avoid the high costs of care,” Alex Brooks says.
